of the years gone by

when you feel there is nothing 

you could do or have done

think of each bead on japmala, a rosary, a misbaha

a silent reckoning force when they voice together

the power of belonging

at times, when you feel worn out 

of the years gone by

when you feel there is nothing

you have achieved

think of each raindrop collectively

silently flowing together to feed millions of being

the power of belonging

at times, when you are dejected, regret 

of the years gone by

when you feel you just stood by stagnated

while others grew tall

think of the lighthouse on sea coast, standing alone

silently guiding many lives to safety during storm

the power of belonging 

at times, when they stare at you

the years gone by

when you feel you have done nothing 

for the future

think of the upbringing your children received

silently educating them of values, caring and sharing, a secured life

the power of belonging
